Hockey - Boys Varsity vs. Thayer Academy*

Event Type: Regular

Date: February 4, 2012

Event Recap:

Canton, MA – The boys hockey team looked to end a five game skid against a young and tough Thayer Academy team.  Typical in any ISL Keller division game, there was intense play throughout.  Govs got out to an early lead with a power play goal off the stick of Junior Lucas Bombardier.  Freshman Bobo Carpenter would have the lone assist on the tally.  Starting the second period with a one goal lead Govs looked to take control of the game.  Senior Captain Bryan Sullivan, who did not capitalize on a penalty shot in the first period, would not miss his next opportunity as he buried a one-timer from Junior Ryan Scarfo.  No game has been easy for this year’s squad and today was no different.  Sitting pretty with a two goal lead Govs would find itself in another tough battle. Thayer stormed back to tie the game with two second period goals.  With multiple opportunities to score on the power play at the end of the second period, the boys from Byfield, rattled and dismayed, went to the locker room tied 2-2.  In the third period Govs would again take the lead on a deflection by Senior Alex Minter, from Junior Nate Ferriero and Bryan Sullivan.  Thayer would answer immediately as they came back with a goal the very next shift.  Bryan Sullivan showed his Senior leadership and character on a great back-check, stripping a Thayer player then he raced down ice with the puck and made a pretty spin-o-rama pass to Ferriero who would send the game winner off of the crossbar and in.  The win was much needed, as Governor’s is set to match up with the #1 team in New England Noble & Greenough on Wednesday night.
