Hockey - Boys Varsity vs. St. Sebastian's*

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 21, 2012

Event Recap:
Needham, MA – Coming off of an emotional win on Friday night a strong effort from the Governor’s team was expected.  However, the team played disinterested in the first period and the strong, young St. Sebastian’s team would carry the play.  Senior Goaltender Nick Commesso held the Arrows to a two goal lead, facing a staggering 22 shots in the first period.  After regrouping between periods Govs would play the second with a passion that was more representative of the Academy.  Governor’s cut the lead in half on a great fore-checking effort by Junior James Murphy, creating room for Senior Alex Minter to make a slick play to Junior Lucas Bombardier.  It would be Bombardier’s 6th goal of the season. Govs would carry the play in the second period and went to the locker-room down 2-1.  The beginning of the third period saw Governor’s carrying the play and the boys from Byfield would tie the game up on a magic rush by Alex Minter.  Minter cruised down the right side of the ice and went top shelf on the blocker side of the Arrow’s goaltender.  A minute and a half into the period Governor’s looked to take control of the game.  The 2002 New England Champions had fight left in them and gave Govs all that they could.  On a strong play to the net, St. Sebastian’s took the lead with an unlucky bounce off a Governor’s skate.  St. Seb’s would ice the game with an empty net goal.  The setback leaves Governor’s at 10-4-3 and 2-4-1 in the competitive ISL conference.  Govs will play three games next week, Wednesday at Lawrence Academy, Friday night at Dexter, will host Brooks on Saturday.
