Hockey - Girls Varsity Phillips Exeter Trn vs Wyoming

Event Type: Tournament

Date: January 2, 2012

Event Recap:

The Governors would play their second game of the day on Monday afternoon and eked out a hard fought victory over Wyoming Seminary 2 – 1 and set the stage for a Tuesday show down with Cushing Academy.  Wyoming would score the lone goal of the first period with just 2:23 remaining in the opening stanza and hang on to this slim lead as the Governors had a decided territorial advantage as the game unfolded.  The Governors played stingy defense and again Maggie Salmon was cool in the Govs net as she blanked Wyoming after giving up one early in the game.  Michelle Alonardo would find her sister Sara uncovered to the left of the Wyoming goal and knot the game at one apiece with 5:40 remaining.  Junior Siobhan McDonough would score the game winner with 3:58 left to play as senior Kelsey Duryea blasted one from the point as McDonough tucked in the rebound from in front of the goal.  Good team defense, solid goal tending and good patience were the secrets to the Govs 5th victory of the season.
