Competing in the highly competitive Independent School League (ISL), the Academy girls’ varsity soccer program has excelled tremendously over the years, earning a berth in the New England Prep School Championship Tournament 14 out of the past 17 years.
Captain Kathryn White will lead the 2018 team, which features 10 returning players.
Our regular season, a 16-game schedule, usually includes games every Wednesday and Saturday with occasional games on Friday or Saturday evenings under the lights. The fall season typically begins the middle of the week after Labor Day with pre-season training for all varsity candidates. The team plays in the Independent School League, which yearly features many of the top private school teams, can be followed at the league website.
We play many of our games on the Barbara F. Porter field, a World Cup-size field considered to be one of the premier pitches in New England. The field is equipped with stadium lights that allows for many exciting games played in the evenings in front of large home crowds. When weather conditions prohibit use of the Porter field, the Govs play on the 80 X 120 foot Class of ’69 Alfond fieldturf. In addition to a strong technical and tactical focus, the coaches at the Academy strive to foster a strong team experience. The teams play an exciting style of play focused on possession, passing, strong defense, attacking play and good sportsmanship.
There is a commitment to helping those players that may want to play at the collegiate level become a part of a program that will fit their needs. Several former players are currently playing at the college level at schools such as Bucknell, Trinity, MIT, William Smith and Syracuse to name just a few. Over 40 girls compete on one of three different levels of teams. Whether you’ve been playing since you were four or simply want to learn the game of soccer now, we have a program right for you.
