Winter Athletics Wins


Our winter athletic teams have reason to celebrate with some incredible wins recently!

ALPINE SKIING

The varsity alpine ski team attended the NEPSAC championship last week. Our girls team placed fourth overall (giant slalom and slalom combined, out of 14 teams) and our boys team placed third overall (giant slalom, out of 15 teams). There were several outstanding individual performances:

  • Girls Slalom: Alex Hughey ‘27 placed second overall (out of 65 racers)
  • Girls Slalom: Parker Baker ‘27 placed seventh overall (out of 65 racers)
  • Girls Giant Slalom: Alex Hughey ‘27 placed second overall (out of 65 racers)
  • Boys Giant Slalom: Nate Jackson ‘27 finished ninth overall (out of 75 racers)

     



INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Members of the varsity indoor track & field team have broken an impressive seven school records this year.

  • Girls 4 x 200 meters: Lauren McMahon ‘25, Maddie Hickey ‘25, Molly Vana ‘26, Nyla Palmer ‘25
  • Girls Pole Vault: Amina Cifric ‘25
  • Girls 200 meters: Nyla Palmer ‘25
  • Boys 55 meters: Yuto Hirasawa ‘25
  • Boys 60 meters: Yuto Hirasawa ‘25
  • Boys 200 meters: Yuto Hirasawa ‘25
  • Boys 4 x 200 meters: Yuto Hirasawa ‘25, Gaige Geraci ‘25, Walter Nelson ‘25, Hunter Kingsbury ‘24

This week, nine athletes competed in the Eastern States Championships at The Armory in New York City competing against athletes from 245 high schools. While there, the same athletes broke four records that they had broken earlier in the season. 

  • Girls 4 x 200 meters: Lauren McMahon ‘25, Maddie Hickey ‘25, Molly Vana ‘26, Nyla Palmer ‘25
  • Girls 200 meters: Nyla Palmer ‘25
  • Boys 55 meters: Yuto Hirasawa ‘25
  • Boys 4 x 200 meters: Yuto Hirasawa ‘25, Gaige Geraci ‘25, Walter Nelson ‘25, Hunter Kingsbury ‘24

Finally, AJ Bly ‘27 qualified for Nationals in the 55-meter dash.

WRESTLING

The varsity wrestling team competed in New England's last week and senior Xavia Banigan ‘24 brought home the New England title! Xavia became the first Govs wrestler since 2020 to win a New England title by defeating her opponent from Hyde 6-4 in the finals. 75 female wrestlers from 23 different schools participated in this year’s tournament.
