Why We Give: Voices From Govs Giving Day

Alumni came out in full force for Govs Giving Day on April 29-30. An annual tradition to support all that is Govs, this year's Giving Day unlocked a generous anonymous donor gift of $100,000 by reaching and surpassing a goal of 1,000 donors in 1,763 minutes. Many alumni left inspiring (and humorous) messages when they made their gifts, and we wanted to share some of the motivation behind their spirit and philanthropy.

"My wonderful classmates from the Great and Glorious Class of 1969 continue to amaze me. Their willingness to support The Governors Academy humbles me every year. Their enduring friendship means more and more to me as time goes on. I deeply miss the ones who have left us all too soon." -Peter '69

"Someone gave money to fund my tuition. I give what I can now, and I hope to be able to fund a student's full tuition in the future. As Governors changed my life, I hope I can give that same opportunity to a child who so deserves it!" -Erin '09

"I always loved singing with the choir, performing with the drama team, and learning about photography! So happy to give to this amazing department!" -Lara '99

"Continuing to honor the pledge our class made on graduating in 1967 to create a 'living' endowment by donating every year." -Edwin '67

"Aid and scholarships have always had equal value to me as a vote of confidence. To feel like a renowned institution believes you can thrive there and wants to be a part of your growth…it’s hard to describe. I hope this school can continue to provide that long after I’m gone." -Emmett '19

"For all the people, past and present, that make Govs such a special community." -Nicole '91

And for a bit of humor...
