Karl Koenigsbauer – Associate Director of Admission

Karl joins us in the Admission Office as an Associate Director of Admission after ten years at Eaglebrook School. During his time at Eaglebrook, Karl held a number of roles. In addition to his work in the Admissions Office, he was Dorm Head, advisor, history teacher, and coach. With fourteen years of admissions experience at three schools, Eaglebrook, Hawai’i Preparatory Academy, and The Rectory School, Karl has coordinated financial aid, the student ambassador program, and traveled worldwide. He enjoys connecting with his students and building relationships with their parents both through the admissions process and while on campus. He is a firm believer in the value of a boarding school education where the learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends. Karl will live on campus with his wife, two children, and dog. His time away from campus is usually spent traveling, running, hiking, and spending time with family.

Ruth Koenigsbauer – English

Ruth joins us as an English teacher, having previously taught at The Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA. Ruth and her husband, Karl, reside on-campus with their two children. Ruth has taught English to grades six through nine and was the English Department Chair until 2021 when she transitioned to the Secondary School Advising Office. In addition to serving as the Associate Director of Secondary School Advising, Ruth continued to teach sixth grade English. Outside the classroom, she helped the Community Outreach committee and she enjoyed taking trips throughout the year with the Eaglebrook Outdoor Program. In her free time, Ruth enjoys hiking, running, reading, and spending time with her family.

Sean McGonagill - Mathematics

Sean joins us as both a mathematics teacher and head coach of our varsity boys basketball team. While earning a B.A. in Economics from Brown University, Sean was a four-year starter and three-year captain of the Brown University Division 1 basketball program. Sean continued his basketball career at the professional level, playing for two years in Germany and England in addition to coaching with Breakaway Basketball. Since then, Sean has been teaching at Brooklyn Preparatory High School while completing an M.S. in Education. In his free time, Sean enjoys playing sports, traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with his wife and his dog.

Louise Nelson P’26 – Science

Louise joins us as a science teacher. She earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies at Connecticut College, where she was lucky enough to work with Dr. Bill Niering in botany and wetlands ecology, and where she played field hockey and lacrosse. Louise taught at The Rivers School before pursuing a masters in marine science at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Her research on the foraging ecology of green turtles framed multiple field seasons at remote camps in the esteros of Bahia Magdalena, Baja California Sur. Louise returned to teaching upon the completion of her degree, and has since taught at The Stevenson School, Pingree School, and Heronfield Academy. Most recently, she was a founding faculty member of the St. John's Preparatory School middle school, where she has taught math and science for seven years. Louise resides with her family in Newburyport, and in her free time enjoys time spent on or in the Parker River, dog walks and runs through our open spaces, ukulele, pottery, cross country skiing, gardening and really anything that takes her outside.

Jack Nivison- Associate Director of College Counseling

Jack joins us as an Associate Director of College Counseling after six years in the Hamilton College admission office. At Hamilton, Jack most recently worked as a regional admission officer in the Boston area. Specifically, he worked with the Hamilton’s Senior Fellow Interviewer Program, oversaw the transfer admissions process, and served as the admissions Athletics Liaison. Before Hamilton, Jack worked in the admission office, coached basketball, advised students, and lived on campus as a dorm parent at Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, Maine. He earned a B.A. in English (with a concentration in Creative Writing) and Government from Colby College and an M.Ed. from Northeastern University. As a self-described movie buff, he has a list of movie suggestions he is excited to share!

Sarah Powers –  Dean of Enrollment

Sarah joins us as our new Dean of Enrollment. She most recently served as the Director of Admission, Enrollment, and Outreach at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. She is no stranger to the North Shore of Boston, however, having served as the Director of Admission at both Dexter Southfield and St. John’s Prep. Before heading to St. John’s, Sarah worked in the Admission and College Counseling offices at the Pingree School. Sarah is also a passionate and talented lacrosse coach. She played D-I lacrosse at Dartmouth as an undergraduate and has many years of coaching experience under her belt both in New England and in the mid-Atlantic region. Sarah and her husband live in Topsfield with their two daughters.

Declan Siefkas

Declan joins us as the choral music director. He earned a B.A. in Music from Colorado College, where he studied piano, conducting, and composition. While there, he founded and directed the Tenebrae New Music Ensemble, Colorado College's first student-run classical performance group. Declan earned an M.M. in Music Theory from New England Conservatory, where he studied cadence in the classical style and music in Legend of Zelda with Dr. Andrew Schartmann in addition to studying composition with Dr. John Mallia. He simultaneously worked as the assistant conductor for the orchestras of Tufts University, taking the orchestras on tour in Europe and helping to guide the program through the pandemic. Most recently, he served as Director of Music at Hillside School in Marlborough, MA. Declan lives in Jamaica Plain with his wife and enjoys spending his spare time cooking, reading Tolkien, playing with his cats, and thinking (and writing) about video game music.
