The Governor’s Academy Performs Annual Spring Concert

The Governor’s Academy is excited to announce the annual Spring Concert, a highlight and culmination of music at the Academy this school year, on Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bergmann Theater at the Wilkie Performing Arts Center. After a long winter, this year’s Spring Concert feels exceptionally hopeful, reflecting the energy, brightness, and sense of progress that our student musicians and singers have experienced throughout the school year.

Notably, we celebrate the incredible legacy of our 22 graduating seniors. This final performance honors their years of artistry and the vibrant spirit they’ve brought to all of their performances at the Academy. Under the expert leadership of Dr. Hexing Ouyang, Director of Instrumental Music, and Dr. Yufen Yen, Director of Choral Music, the concert showcases a diverse range of groups, including Orchestra, Jazz Band, The First (advanced chorus), Academy Singers, and A Cappella.

The program will feature a professional repertoire that spans centuries. From beloved classics to modern favorites like Pirates of the Caribbean and songs from Stranger Things, this year’s show will certainly have something for everyone. Notably, the evening will spotlight Senior Student Conductors Renee Tse ’26 (Orchestra), Gabe Nelson ’26 (Orchestra), Sydney Taylor ’26 (The First), Alex Bace ‘26 (Jazz Band), and Josh Taylor ’26 (Jazz Band).

Gabe Nelson ’26, a Newburyport resident, expressed his excitement for the show, saying, “A lot of time and hard work went into the preparation for this year's Spring Concert, not only on stage, but in practice rooms, dorm rooms, and homes, as we prepared all of the excellent and challenging music that's in the program.”

Put on your finest seasonal attire, join us, and don’t miss out on an extraordinary evening of music and springtime celebration.
