Juriah Asberry Fluitt ‘23 of Atlanta, Georgia was elected Academy President for the 2022-2023 school year. At Govs, he runs outdoor track and will be a proctor in Eames dorm next year. Juriah is a busy young man, but we caught up to him for a quick Q&A.
Why did you choose to come to Govs?
Although I was reluctant at first, I chose to come to Govs to dive into a new experience. Coming from Atlanta, Georgia, I had never known what it was like to attend school outside of my state. I wanted to know what it was like, and I knew Govs had a lot to offer.
What are your passions?
I have a lot of different passions. I really enjoy running track. I have not had as much time due to my schedule, but I am also very into the arts. I grew up drawing, and I still enjoy doing it to this day.
Why did you run for Academy President?
Being good friends with both Aleem '22 and Bejunior '21, I saw how much they accomplished as Academy presidents. This inspired me to run. I believe that can accomplish a great deal as academy president next year.
GOVS: What do you hope to achieve next year as Academy President?
I hope to bring a more relaxed Guest Policy. We have had many restrictions due to the Covid pandemic, however, I hope to bring this back in the future. I also hope to create a closer bond between boarders and day students.
And last, but not least, what's your favorite dining hall meal?
JURIAH: Dumplings are the only correct answer.
I believe that I can accomplish a great deal as academy president next year.
