Four Sparrows- First Flight Art Exhibit on Display

The Governor’s Academy is excited to exhibit the works of artists Amy Hourihan, Elizabeth Lorayne, Andrea Maginnis, and Chris Robinson in the Peter C. Remis Lobby of the Wilkie Center for the Performing Arts through January 10.

The Four Sparrows are a group of artists and printmakers who seek to embody resilience, adaptability, and hope. The show, First Flight, celebrates the artists’ shared journey of discovery through the unpredictable, challenging, and deeply satisfying world of printmaking.

Printmaking, with its many forms, techniques, and intricate processes, demands an openness to change, embracing unexpected results as part of the creative path. It is this thrill of uncertainty that draws each artist to the craft, encouraging them to adapt, explore, and continuously evolve.

The artists’ backgrounds bring unique perspectives to this shared art form. Amy Hourihan, a painter and printmaker, finds vibrancy and texture in her work. Elizabeth Lorayne, a printmaker, Jungian coach, and author, infuses her pieces with symbolic depth. Andrea Maginnis does printmaking and assemblages, creating new forms and patterns out of everyday objects. Chris Robinson’s prints are often grounded in personal narratives.

Together, the artists embrace the sparrow as a symbol of hope. These humble birds inspire the audience to find joy in simplicity, stay flexible in the face of obstacles, and accept each new outcome with optimism. First Flight invites you to explore how art and life reflect the unexpected beauty of growth and change.

Please take some time to experience the joyful exhibition and join us for a reception on Friday, January 10, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The gallery is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekdays, and Saturday and Sunday by appointment. Please contact Shanna Fliegel to make an appointment.
