The Governor’s Academy proudly announces its annual winter musical, Little Women, which is set to captivate audiences on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15, at 8:00 p.m. in the Bergmann Theater in the Wilkie Center for the Performing Arts. Both Valentine’s Day weekend performances are open to the public and free of charge.
Set in 19th-century Massachusetts, this timeless story is based on Louisa May Alcott’s renowned novel of family and empowerment. Through its imaginative storytelling and dynamic “story within a story” structure, Little Women invites audiences to the March sisters’ world, where the bonds of sisterhood, the challenges of self-discovery, and the resilience of love take center stage. Each of the four sisters’ journeys highlights a unique expression of love and ambition, offering something relatable to everyone.
The production showcases the culmination of three months of intense effort by over 50 students and faculty who comprise the hard-working cast, unwavering tech crew, skilled pit-band musicians, and dedicated directors. In his second year as the director, Governor’s alumnus Jack Norton '17 says, “It is a story that's been told for almost 200 years, and inventing something new is difficult. That being said, the beautiful music with a lot of classical tonality along with modern musical theater vocals really helps to tell this story in a new way.”

Little Women is the debut musical at Govs for Instrumental Music Director Isaac Kramer and Choral Director Dr. Yufen Yen. Prior to leading the instrumental music program at Govs, Kramer toured the country for five years with the Broadway National Tours of Fiddler on the Roof and My Fair Lady (Lincoln Center Theater). Kramer says, “I am thrilled to share my extensive professional expertise and unique creative skills with my students for this spectacular production of Little Women!” Bonniejean Wilbur designed the production’s costumes. Technical Theater Director Joe Repcyznski P’25,’28 led a group of students in the Carpentry for Theater class and the Technical Theater afternoon program in the design and creation of the set, lighting, and sound for the show.
This year’s musical highlights the incredible talent of local students who bring it to life. Among the cast, Willow Dixon ’26, of Newburyport, stars as Meg March, the oldest of the four sisters. Willow says, “I’ve met so many amazing people through the musical, like my best friends Sydney, Alice, and Julia. We wouldn’t be so close without working together throughout the winter season. Performing on opening night in front of a packed house is a really special feeling. I am so excited to experience it again.” With many other cast members and musicians from the North Shore, Little Women emphasizes local talent while also celebrating the geographic diversity of the Academy’s student body, which includes students from across the country and around the world.
Join us at The Governor’s Academy for a night of unforgettable performances, excellent music, and the touch of magic that Little Women brings to all!
