LET'S TURN THIS MOMENT INTO MOMENTUM
The With True Courage name was inspired by the family motto of our founder, Governor William Dummer: “With true courage, nothing is impossible.” It was the most ambitious campaign in our 261-year history. We set out to raise $100 million to support the incredible students who spend their formative years here and the faculty who inspire them daily.
And with true courage, we did it. Thanks to our donors, we raised over $100 million to ensure The Governor’s Academy will continue to inspire generations of students for centuries to come. Now, let’s celebrate and continue the momentum we have created.
A family-like atmosphere is often how I describe Govs to prospective families. Families thrive when they act together. I am truly grateful to the Govs family members who believed in our vision, contributed to our success, and are invested in our future.

SUPPORT MEANS EVERYTHING BECAUSE IT IMPACTS EVERYTHING
Financial Aid
Welcoming students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives is fundamental to the Govs experience, and financial aid plays a critical role in building the community we desire. We can now offer more financial aid than ever before so that every student who belongs here can access the education they deserve.
Bill '67 and Peter '71 Alfond Coastal Research Center and Bass Institute
We’ve been bringing experiential and place-based learning into the Govs academic experience for over a decade. And now, we have a dedicated place and program to support this hands-on learning approach. Located along the Parker River and Great Marsh, the Alfond Center and Bass Institute provide amazing advanced learning opportunities for our students.
Peter Marshall French Student Center
We renovated and expanded the Student Center by more than 4,000 sq. ft. While it's a place for all students to socialize, learn, connect, and gather, the building is especially important for day students, who now have a place on campus to feel as much at home at Govs as boarding students do.
Faculty
We can say yes to more professional development opportunities for our faculty to broaden their talent and stay at the forefront of educational innovation. And when our faculty learn and grow, they pass that knowledge, interest, and passion on to their students. We also built three new on-campus homes, creating valuable spaces for some of our longest-tenured faculty members who have spent their lives improving Govs.
The Governor's Fund
Our annual fund supports the full Govs experience for every member of our student community. And it’s a critical source of our revenue that impacts every aspect of life at the Academy. The Governor’s Fund is our engine of opportunity, making a visible and lasting difference in the lives of our students.
Athletics
We built the new Alfond Class of 1967 Turf Field, which helps us play through unexpected New England weather. We built the new eight-lane Bennett H. Beach ’67 Track, which allows us to host major championships. And we’re able to provide substantial funding for equipment, uniforms, and practice gear for every student. Now that’s a win.

Nurturing Independence and Fostering Growth
Sridhar Bogelli and Sowjanya Velchala P ’23 are the proud parents of recent graduate Lakshmi Bogelli ’23. They are also enthusiastic supporters of The Governor’s Fund, the Academy’s annual giving program and a cornerstone of the With True Courage campaign. Together they recognize that by supporting The Governor’s Fund, they are doing their part to support all aspects of the Govs experience, not just for Lakshmi, but for the entire student body.
Taking the Lead
Entertainment industry veteran David Brooks P’23 has worked on iconic projects like Squid Game, Ozark, and Good Will Hunting. But for his latest project—an experiential course called ‘The Art of Persuasion’—the crew he directed was a group of 16 Govs seniors who swapped textbooks for a chance to create the marketing plan for the Governor’s art department and its spring 2023 lineup.
Championing Diversity and Inclusion
Trustee Phil Gillespie and Dr. Daniel Randall P’22,’25 have made an extraordinary contribution to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at Governor’s by establishing the first endowed fund in support of DEI work at Govs. With a vision encompassing the entire Govs family, Gillespie and Randall aim to involve teachers, staff, students, and parents.
