2017 NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS Class "C" - Third Place
Varsity Alpine Girls Ski Team
The Governor's Academy Alpine Ski Racing team enjoyed its inaugural season in 2014-15. This upstart program experienced a phenomenal level of success during the past three years and will continue to push the veteran programs of the ISL. Both girls and boys teams train Monday nights at Bradford Mountain and race Wednesdays against other ISL schools at Nashoba Valley. On-campus, dryland practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays. Skiers are free on Fridays so they may head up to the mountains to train with their individual mountain programs and/or free ski.
The season begins after Thanksgiving break with dryland training that includes strength training, aerobic workouts, film work, and technical ski racing instruction. The transition to the slopes takes place as soon as Mother Nature allows. League races are modified GS with slalom for varsity skiers on certain weeks. The top skiers compete at the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Championships in mid-February.
Approximately half the skiers on our team have competitive racing experience when they first join the team; the other half are confident, advanced skiers excited to give alpine racing a try. The teams practice and train as one group to spur camaraderie and a team-first atmosphere. Coaches strive to give each skier differentiated instruction to facilitate their growth as a racer and individual.
Prospective skiers, especially those with competitive ski experience in any discipline, are encouraged to fill out the prospective student player form.
