Application Process at The Governor’s Academy

We are delighted that you are interested in The Governor’s Academy, an independent high school in Byfield, Massachusetts. We look forward to getting to know you through the application process. There are a number of opportunities to connect with our office both on campus and while we are on the road. Check out our upcoming events to see where we will be this year.

There are a few steps involved in our day and boarding student application process, which are highlighted below. First, submit an inquiry, then schedule your interview, and finally complete your application. Please note that testing is optional for applicants for the 2025 school year.

Our admission team is ready to answer any questions you may have along the way. Please contact us with any questions. (Admission@govsacademy.org or call 978.499.3120)

Step 1: INQUIRE

The first step is to fill out our inquiry form. After you have completed our online inquiry form, you will receive an email with a link to the Governor's Admission Portal and your username. If you have a domestic mailing address, keep an eye out for a viewbook in your mailbox. If you have an international mailing address, you will receive a link to our digital viewbook.

Step 2: tour & INterview

After you have completed our inquiry form, we encourage you to schedule a visit to our campus for a tour and interview. Your student-led tour is an opportunity to see our beautiful campus and ask questions about life at Govs. It will be followed by your interview with a member of our admission team. For applicants applying for the fall of 2025, we are offering in-person and a limited number of virtual interviews. We encourage families that live within driving distance and are able to get to campus for an in-person visit to choose the in-person interview option. To schedule your interview, log into the Governor’s Admission Portal and use the self-scheduling feature in the application checklist.

Questions about scheduling your interview? Contact us at 978.499.3120 or admission@govsacademy.org.

Step 3: apply

We welcome online applications from Gateway to Prep Schools or SSAT’s Standard Application Online (SAO). The deadline to apply for admission is January 15 for day student applicants and January 31 for boarding student applicants.

Step 4: TESTING

The Governor’s Academy requires all applicants for enrollment in the fall of 2026 to complete and submit an SSAT or ISEE test result. Additionally, we require all international applicants for whom English is not a first language to submit a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo test result. International students who have studied in schools where the primary language of instruction is English (not ELL or ESL) for the three years immediately preceding the year of enrollment are not required to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo test results. Please direct any testing questions to Dean of Enrollment Mike Kinnealey. Please note that the testing company must send the test results directly to admission@govsacademy.org. Test results sent any other way will not be accepted.
