Application Process at The Governor’s Academy

We're delighted that you are interested in our independent school in Byfield. We look forward to getting to know you through the application process.

There are a few steps involved in our day and boarding student application process, which are highlighted below. First, please submit an inquiry, then call or email us to schedule your visit to campus which will include a tour and interview, and finally complete your application. Please note that testing is optional for applicants for the 2023 school year.

Our admission team is ready to answer any questions you may have along the way. Please contact us with any questions! Interested in registering for an event or seeing if The Governor’s Academy is coming to your area? Check out our upcoming events!

Step 1: INQUIRE

The first step is to fill out our inquiry form. After you have completed our online inquiry form, you will receive an email with a link to the Govs Admission Portal and your user name. If you have a domestic mailing address, keep an eye out for a viewbook in your mailbox. If you have an international mailing address, you will receive a link to our digital viewbook.

Step 2: tour & INterview

After you have completed our inquiry form, we encourage you to schedule a visit to our campus for a tour and interview. Your student-led tour is an opportunity to see our beautiful campus and ask questions about life at Govs. It will be followed by your interview with a member of our Admission Team. For applicants applying for the fall of 2023, we are offering both in-person and virtual interviews. Please call 978.499.3120 or email admission@govsacademy.org to schedule your interview.

Step 3: apply

Once you have created an account in the Govs admission portal, you will have access to our application. The application includes parent/guardian questions as well as short answer questions and an essay for the applicant to complete.

We accept the Standard Application Online (SAO) and Gateway to Prep Schools Application (Gateway). If you apply through SAO or Gateway, you do not need to complete the forms in the Govs Admission Portal, however, you will still need to create an admission portal account with Govs to track your progress toward completing the application file and admission decision. Create your Govs Admission Portal account here.

Step 4: TESTING

We are test optional for the SSAT for fall 2023 applicants. We strongly encourage international applicants for whom English is not a first language to submit a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo result, unless it is impractical or unsafe to do so. For those who do submit standardized testing, we will accept any form of the SSAT or ISEE tests. Please direct any testing questions from international applicants here
