Built in 1997, the Carl A. Pescosolido Library (known as “Pesky Library” by our students) is the center of academic life at the Academy. Pesky’s program stimulates a lifelong engagement with the world of ideas and information.
Our library includes more than 20,000 square feet of study and research space, a 30,000-volume collection, hundreds of periodicals, and expansive, light-filled individual and group study areas and rooms. It is also home to our Learning Center and our Writing Center.
The Carl A. Pescosolido Library provides an information-rich environment for members of The Governor’s Academy community. Through collaboration with academic faculty and the use of current technology resources, librarians strive to ensure that all learners become active, self-reliant, and critical users of information in all its formats. While the library functions as an integral component of the total learning experience, the library supports the acquisition of materials for all programs and for the personal growth of all users.

Our library is a member of the Massachusetts Library System, a state-wide collaborative that fosters cooperation, communication, innovation, and sharing among member libraries of all types. Our membership provides access to interlibrary loan, supplemental reference service, information databases, and document delivery through the Boston Public Library. In addition to scholarly resources, our library is staffed by librarians throughout the day and night who are experienced in guiding students through the process of research. They help students develop information literacy skills and a love of reading for both learning and pleasure.
As the oldest boarding school in New England, The Governor’s Academy possesses a treasure trove of historical materials. From the Document of Incorporation of Dummer Academy to decades of class photos to letterman jackets from the 1950s, these artifacts and documents are stored in The Ragle Archives Room in the Carl A. Pescosolido Library.
