Over the past 29 years, long-distance runner Ilse Abusamra '93 has completed 52 marathons globally. Her running journey began at the Academy under the tutelage of her father, former cross-country coach David "Abu" Abusamra P’93, and blossomed on the school's undefeated varsity team. She's already training in Central Park for her 17th New York City Marathon this November.

Sienna Mercaldi ’27, a day student from Gloucester, Massachusetts, studied Spanish throughout elementary and middle school, but never felt that she truly progressed in her understanding of the language until she came to The Governor’s Academy. “Once I got to Govs, I grew my skills to the point where I felt confident communicating in Spanish whenever I traveled to a Spanish-speaking country,” she says. This past year, Mercaldi took Advanced Spanish: Language, Culture, and Ethical Inquiry, a new honors-level V language course taught by Jake Falconer P’19,’21, who joined The Governor’s Academy faculty in 2007.

The Governor's Academy held its 263rd Commencement exercises this morning in the Pescosolido Field House. The rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of the ninety-seven members of the Class of 2026 who received their diplomas before a crowd of faculty, family, friends, and underclass students.
