The Carl A Pescosolido Library
Built in 1997, the Carl A. Pescosolido Library forms the academic core of the Academy. The library includes more than 20,000 square feet of study and research space, a 30,000-volume collection with capacity to 50,000 volumes, over 180 seats, 175 dataports, wireless access, hundreds of periodicals, a learning center, and expansive, light-filled research areas and group study rooms.
The library is a member of the Massachusetts Library System that provides access to interlibrary loan, supplemental reference service, information databases, and document delivery through the Boston Public Library. The library has an active presence on Classrooms on Elmstreet, the Academy’s Moodle site. The library maintains research guides, library resources, reading links, and a rich social media presence.
The Pescosolido Library envisions a program which stimulates a lifelong engagement with the world of ideas and information. This program encompasses the development of information literacy skills and a love of reading for both learning and pleasure.
The Pescosolido Library provides an information rich environment for members of The Governor’s Academy community. Through collaboration with academic faculty and the use of current technology resources, librarians strive to ensure that all learners become active, self-reliant, and critical users of information in all its formats. While the library functions as an integral component of the total learning experience, the library supports the acquisition of materials for all programs and for the personal growth of all users.
