The Governors were a little rusty coming off a long Christmas break and lost a squeaker to Northfield Mount Hermon 2 – 1 in the opening round of the Exeter tournament. Both teams played stingy defense in the first period as they skated to a scoreless tie after 15 minutes expired. Mid-way through the period NMH would score the first of two second period goals and took a 2 – 0 lead into the locker room after 30 minutes were played. The Governors were ineffective on the power play as NMH took five penalties during the game and the Govs could not convert to get themselves back on the score board. Sophomore Michelle Alonardo would cut the lead in half with 2:02 remaining in the period as sister Sara and junior Natalie Sullivan were credited with assists. With time expiring, Maggie Salmon was lifted for the extra skater and the Govs had two or three good scoring chances but could not find the back of the net as time expired.
