The Governor’s won a key Division II contest against Rivers, beating them 4 – 2 at home as they head into the last 10 days of the regular season. The teams skated to a scoreless tie after one period and the Govs scored goals at either end of the second period to take a 2 – 0 lead. Senior captain Sara Alonardo would score a power play goal with just 2:25 gone in the period. Some crisp passing around the zone by line mates Michelle Alonardo and Siobhan McDonough and defenseman Natalie Sullivan set up Sara who made her way into the slot to the right of the Rivers goal. Michelle would extend the lead with 5:15 remaining in the period and McDonough would again be credited with the assist. Freshman Elena Driscoll would extend the lead to 3 – 0 when Sullivan and sophomore center Maria Krull would find Driscoll alone to the right of the Rivers goal. Rivers would score two late goals before Michelle Alonardo scored into the empty net with thirty-six seconds left to secure the victory.
