The Governors played a talented Thayer squad and lost a hard fought Division II battle 4 – 1 as senior Melissa Piacentini scored all four of the Thayer goals, two in the last three minutes of the game. Thayer took an early lead on the power play but the Governors responded with their lone tally of the afternoon late in the first period. Sophomore Michelle Alonardo would take a nice feed from her sister Sara and bury a great shot to the right of the Thayer goalie. A goal early in the second period would allow Thayer some breathing room, but not much as the Governors continued to press Thayer in all three zones. They got an insurance goal with 3:04 left to play to extend the lead to 3 – 1 and then took two penalties with two minutes left to play. Goalie Maggie Salmon was lifted for the extra skater and the Governors buzzed the Thayer net but could not get one back and the game ended with an empty net goal with one second remaining. The Governors travel to St. Paul’s on Saturday for another key ISL match up.
