The Governors surprised a very good Southfield team that had only 2 losses coming into this very important Division II contest and took them into over-time where they earned a 1 – 1 tie. Southfield would score on the power play in the first period and from that point forward goalie Maggie Salmon closed the door and played very well in the Governors net. She faced a lot of shots in the second period when the Governors had some difficulty clearing their own zone. Sophomore Cassie Hanlon would tie the game with 5:06 remaining in the middle stanza as she ripped a wrist shot that found its way to the back of the net and sophomore defenseman Kiley Coffey would be credited with the assist. The game stayed tied in regulation and as the extra stanza began, the Governors killed off a penalty in OT and had several good scoring chances during the last three minutes of play. They travel to KUA on Friday evening for another key divisional contest.
