The Governors made their way to North Yarmouth Maine to start the 2011 – 2012 season. They skated away with an impressive 7 – 1 victory as they played stingy defense and road the success of a potent offensive attack by Siobhan McDonough, Michelle Alonardo and senior captain Sara Alonardo. They combined for 4 goals and 5 assists on their way to a great start of the season. It would be junior assistant captain Natalie Sullivan who got the ball rolling as she scored an unassisted goal mid-way through the first period. Freshman Elena Driscoll would score her first career goal just 4 minutes later as she, too, scored without an assist. However, line-mates Cassie Hanlon and Emma Conry forced an offensive zone turnover that led to the goal. Sophomore Michelle Alonardo would score the first of her three goals with only twenty seconds remaining in the period and her sister Sara was credited with the lone assist. The Governors would be held scoreless in the second stanza, but added four more as the third period unfolded. Sara Alonardo and senior defenseman Kelsey Duryea would score their first goals of the season late in the period to secure the Govs first win, and Michelle would score the first and last goals of the period to complete her first career hat trick. Sophomore Maggie Salmon was solid between the pipes for the Governors as she notched her first win of the season.
