Get Involved
There are many ways to engage in life at The Governor's Academy after graduation. The most popular volunteer activities are listed below:
Alumni Council
The heart of the Alumni Council corresponds to the Academy's school motto, Non sibi sed aliis, not for self but for others. The goal of the Alumni Council leadership is to actively involve and engage every alumnus in giving back to their school, through the sponsorship of programs and the promotion of kinship among alumni. The success of this leadership is defined by the extent of alumni participation in Academy affairs. If you are interested in joining the Council, please email Amy Swiniarski, Director of Alumni Relations.
Alumni Council Executive Board:
Class SecretariesClass Secretaries serve as a liaison between The Governor's Academy and alumni/ae in their class to generate class notes for
The Archon. The primary goal of the Class Secretary is to strengthen class ties and generate positive feelings about their class and the Academy. If you are interested in serving as a Class Secretary, please email
Sue Laferriere.
Social Networks
The Governor's Academy is on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr (with LinkedIn coming soon). Friend us, like us, follow us, and visit us by connecting to these social networks via the icons at the bottom of every page.
Catalyst Summer Internships
The Catalyst Summer Internship Program, established in 2009 by Headmaster Marty Doggett, places rising seniors in summer internships in the fields of medicine and science. The internships involve hands-on, real world research at institutions such as Harvard Medical School, the Boston Medical Amyloid Research Labs, the North Shore Medical/Mass General Orthopedic Surgery Center, the Ecosystem Center of Marine Biology Wood’s Hole Parker River Project and Project SHARE (Salmon Habitat and River Enhancement). We are looking to expand this unique program and encourage alumni to explore opportunities in their workplaces, institutions or organizations. To learn more, please email Amy Swiniarski or call her at 978-499-3187.
Class Agents
Class Agents represent The Governor's Academy Annual Giving Program and are responsible for asking their classmates to contribute to the Annual Fund on a yearly basis. Most of their work consists of letter writing and phone calls. Class Agents are vital to the success of the Annual Giving Program and to the strength and well-being of the Academy. More volunteers are always needed, please email Ina Drouin, Director of Annual Giving.
Volunteering at The Governor’s Academy
More than 300 volunteers give their time to the Academy each year. If you are interested in becoming involved in any of the opportunities listed above, or wish to recommend a new program, contact the Alumni and Development Office at 978-499-3185. Volunteering is a great way to stay connected to The Governor’s Academy.
