Participation in drama productions is offered as an alternative to athletics in The Governor's Academy Afternoon Program. Energetic and talented students find expression at the Academy through three major theatrical productions each year: the fall play, the winter musical, and spring play.
Performances range from full-scale productions to smaller shows, and run the gamut from classical tragedy to modern comedy. In addition to these shows, students are encouraged to stage their own productions during the spring semester.
The Governor's Academy students also pursue their dramatic interests off-campus, working with local professional groups including the various members of the Newburyport arts community. In addition, there are opportunities to attend professional performances in Boston on a regular basis. Our curriculum includes drama classes for upper classmen and within the freshman IFA program.
