Congratulations to Katharine Fogarty ’13 for scoring her 1,000 point as a member of The Governor’s Academy girls basketball team! Kat scored her 1,000 point in the final minute of the Govs recent game against the New Hampton School. Senior Ceci Reyes got the assist on the shot, while senior Katie O’Book set a screen to get Kat open allowing her to score.
Kat is a three year varsity starter, two time team MVP, two time ISL All Star, and a two time New England All Star. She is currently the leading scorer in the ISL, averaging 18.3 points per game. Kat also plays for the New England Crusaders AAU team and has made a verbal commitment to attend Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Head Coach Erin O’Connell commented on Kat’s tremendous play, “The best part about Kat’s game is that she is constantly working to improve.” In only her Junior year, Kat is truly a standout on the court, Coach O’Connell has seen her transform over the past three seasons: “two years ago, she was a one dimensional post player, but through sheer determination, she has transformed herself into a versatile offensive force and a strong defensive presence.”
Kat joins the exclusive list of other Governor‘s Academy girls basketball stars to achieve this incredible feat. Fellow Governor’s players scoring 1,000 points include: Vanessa Russell ’02, Ashley Mastrangelo’02, Anabel Perdomo ’02, and Katherine Goodwin ’08 .
The girls Basketball team is coached by Erin O’Connell and Ray Long ’96. Currently the girls are 9-6 on the season and are poised for another chance to compete in the post season of play.
