The heart of the Alumni Council corresponds to the Academy's school motto, Non sibi sed aliis, not for self but for others. The goal of the Alumni Council leadership is to actively involve and engage every alumnus in giving back to their school, through the sponsorship of programs and the promotion of kinship among alumni. The success of this leadership is defined by the extent of alumni participation in Academy affairs. Senior Engagement & School Traditions
The purpose of the Senior Engagement Committee is to connect with current students before they graduate and provide support as they transition to members of the Alumni body. Through activities including the Annual Alumni Welcome Dinner, the Capstone Project, and other school-related initiatives, the committee will work to make lasting connections with students at the Academy and especially with the Senior Class. This committee will work to leverage the experiences and resources of the Alumni Body to assist seniors with college choices and career opportunities. In addition, as the oldest boarding school in America, this committee will help connect the school to its rich and deep history and will serve as a resource for members of the school community on important traditions that help define the Governor’s experience.
Social Events and Alumni Gatherings
The Social Events and Alumni Gatherings Committee is designed to engage the alumni network and provide connections across all classes and in different geographic locations. This group will be focused on creating social opportunities for alumni to gather, including the traditional Grog event and the Holiday Gathering as well as new events. This committee will work with the Development Office to target alumni across the country and create opportunities for members of the Alumni body to connect.
Professional Alignment & Networking Committee
The purpose of this committee is to provide opportunities for professional networking and collaborations among alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the Academy. This committee will use both traditional and online forums to leverage the broad expertise and professions of the alumni body. These opportunities may include but are not limited to, professional/career networking events, personal and professional mentoring, and outreach. The goal is to inform Academy Alumni of opportunities for advancement and employment in a variety of career fields.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Committee
The Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is a subset of the Alumni Council. The Governor's Academy Athletic Hall of Fame was created in 2002 to honor exemplary scholar athletes and coaches at the Academy. The first class was inducted in the fall of 2003 and, since that time, the Academy has enshrined 18 individuals. Honorees are selected biennially by a committee of alumni, faculty, staff and administrators, including former and current Academy coaches. The Athletic Hall of Fame is located in Alumni Gymnasium.
