Private Secondary schools like The Governor’s Academy provide a unique educational experience offering challenges for its students both in and out of the classroom. In fact, The Governor’s Academy founded the boarding school tradition in 1763 and has remained committed to educating students for 246 years. With a diverse student body, a talented faculty, a well-rounded academic and extra-curricular program and exceptional facilities, The Governor’s Academy students live and learn in a beautiful and stimulating environment.
Tuition for the 2009-2010 academic year is $42,600 for boarding students and $33,600 for day students. We understand that each family who considers The Governor’s Academy must find a balance between the value of education and the cost of tuition. We strongly believe that the cost of tuition should not deter you from considering The Governor’s Academy for your child, and our financial aid program helps nearly 100 families each year who are not able to meet the full cost of tuition on their own.
Financial Aid Overview
In order to make The Governor’s Academy Experience a reality for as many students as possible, we are committed to a financial aid program that enables qualified students from all cultural, racial and socio-economic groups to attend. The financial aid program, in short, allows The Governor’s Academy to enroll deserving students who may not otherwise have access to an independent school education. Through our financial aid program, The Governor’s Academy seeks students with an active commitment to integrity, learning, academic excellence, community service and extracurricular participation. We also strive to create a community that is reflective of the diversity of the world into which our graduates will be expected to live and lead. For 2009-2010, The Governor’s Academy offered over $2.9 million in need-based financial aid which was distributed to over one quarter of our student body.
Financial aid grants are awarded on the basis of a family’s demonstrated need. To help evaluate demonstrated need, The Governor’s Academy employs the nationally standardized system for analysis offered by the School and Student Services (SSS) which is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

How to Apply for Financial Aid
A family’s Financial Aid Application and a student’s Application for Admission are two separate processes. Families intending to apply for financial aid must complete the Parents Financial Statement (PFS) and are encouraged to do so online at www.nais.org . If you are unable to access the PFS online, call our office at (978) 499-3120 and we will send you the paper version. By creating an account at www.nais.org, families will be able to track the status of their financial aid application.
In addition to completing the PFS, parents must also submit signed copies of their 2009 1040 Federal Tax Return including all schedules, copies of all 2009 W-2 and/or 1099 forms and, if applicable, the SSS Business/Farm Statement to SSS by NAIS, P.O. Box 449, Randolph, MA 02368.
Our Financial Aid Application deadline is January 31 and we notify candidates of our financial aid decisions at the same time we mail our regular admission decision letters on March 10.
